Welcome to Diner Alo Hijra Songho
The Diner Alo Hijra Songho (DAHS) is a non-profit, non-communal, socio-economic non-governmental and non-political organization. The songha was established in December 2007 to primarily act as a pressure group for the Hijra community to lobby with the policy planners and decision-makers. As a non-governmental development organization, DAHS working for the welfare of the socially Hijra community in Rajshahi Division, Bangladesh
The livelihood situation of the Transgender people (Hijra) is very vulnerable in the country. The community is totally isolated from the general population due to their different culture and dialect and their rules and regulations. Most of the transgender people have not access in earning source due to social, religious, cultural reasons and lack of the life skills. They face social barriers to free movement, even they have no opportunity to enjoy basic human rights and fundamental rights. Although the government of Bangladesh recognized the Hijra community, yet they are deprived of their basic human rights and entitlements. It’s very difficult for transgender community for inclusion in the family and society. Stigma and discrimination and violence against the Hijra are regular. Thus, their empowerment at individual, social and organizational level is high priority and intensive effort is required for capacity building on organizational development, networking, leadership, mainstreaming of the Hijra communities. On the basis of the reality and demands, Diner Alo felt the importance to design a program for transgender community, which will capacitate Hijra community people to raise their voice, create neutral and fair environments in family and in society for them and to attain their rights and access to familial and social set up like other people. Under this contextual situation, Diner Alo Hijra Songho implemented Promoting Rights of the Extreme Society Excluded People Project by the support of HASAB since 01 April 2008 to 30 June 2012. Implemented Strengthening the Capacity of Community Based Organization and Effective Person Project by the support of PODOKKHEP since 01 December 2010 to 30 November 2012. Implemented CBO Capacity Building Project by the support of ICDDRB since 2010 to 2015. Implemented Technical Assistant Resource Mobilization & Sustain Ability Project by the support of Bondhu Social Welfare Society since 01 October 2014 to 15 March 2020. Implemented Technical Assistant Resource Mobilization & Sustain Ability Project by the support of Blast since 01 October 2021 to 30 June 2022. Presently DAHS implementing 4 years long Leadership & Empowerment of Transgender Project by the support of MJF since 01 January 2020.
